India Update

Truly I say to you, as you did for even the least of my brothers, you have done for Me (Jesus). Matthew 25:40

Let’s talk about India! This is one of the HCJB Global projects in our region which we’re really excited about, and we know you’ll want to hear about it too. A few months back, we mentioned the mission’s plans to refurbish a village mission clinic in Northern India.

The first part of the renovation to the women’s ward happened late in 2007, and this spring an HCJB Global medical team came in from Ecuador to provide aid and to help with community health training for local nurses. The medical team served approximately 2,000 needy patients who lined up over 10 busy and exhausting days...

...along with training nurses and traveling to surrounding villages for medical consults. Many, many of the female patients in the villages had never seen a doctor before.

The province they live in is the most populous in India and one of the poorest. It’s also heavily Hindu. Less than 1% of the people there are Christians. HCJB Global is committed to this ongoing project as a means of showing Jesus’ love in practical ways to these people who are so deeply hurting and struggling.

Back at the Ministry Centre in Singapore, our jobs in IT and broadcasting are pretty behind-the-scenes by comparison, yet we – and you – are all in this together. And it is a great honour to be part of a team who works together around the world to see those who need God’s touch helped both physically and spiritually.

Financial Facts
It’s now been two years since we officially started service with HCJB Global and departed Swift Current for pre-field training. And one thing we haven’t gotten away from, even on the other side of the world, is the reality that costs go up over time.

In March, our support level was re-evaluated by our director. The Canadian dollar’s strength right now is certainly helping our situation, but the rise in cost of living here is winning out at the moment. There have been sharp increases in the costs of housing in Singapore and school tuition for our kids in particular.

Tuition fees for Thizbe and Emmett have jumped by 40%...

(No worries, they’re still smiling!
This is a view from the school balcony.)

...and rent is up by at least 60%. To help with these costs, the level of support we need – and must raise – has increased by $677 per month. This is the first support increase since our level was set three years ago when we began our deputation.

We ask those of you who are not currently part of our financial support team to consider joining in with a monthly, annual, or special gift. Or, if you are already a part of our team and feel able to increase your support, please consider doing this.

To designate a gift, simply donate online or send a cheque payable to our Canadian Office (see below). On the memo line, please reference our account number, 110516. For changes to your current support, please contact the Canadian Office as well. Thank you in advance for your prayerful consideration!

Gifts are tax deductible

It is only by the goodness of our Lord and the response of His people that we can continue here. Thank you so much for serving the people of Asia with us! Your prayers and support mean more than we can say.

Love,
Steve, Lisa, Thizbe, Emmett

Prayer List...
  • We’re thankful for staff member Siau Ching (pictured with us above) who has joined our office as a program producer. Please pray for her work in Mandarin programming for China.

  • Please pray for the mission clinic in Northern India – for strength and safety for the staff, and for a great ministry to the patients.

  • We’re thankful for Dave and Barb Pasechnik, the new Regional Directors for Asia Pacific. Please pray for them in their new role, especially as it involves a lot of travel back and forth from the U.S.

  • We’re thankful that Steve has another website finished, and Lisa has been able to work on a lot of voicing for our International Headquarters. Please pray for our family’s physical and spiritual health, and for a good school break for Thizbe and Emmett.

Thank you for praying!
