Thinking of Christmas

Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us).
Matthew 1:23

Wow, Christmas time is coming quickly. As the season nears, we are especially pondering Jesus as Immanuel. He came to earth and walked among us in the form of a man 2,000 years ago, and now His Spirit walks with us and guides us through the journey of life. He promises never to leave or forsake those who believe. God with us.

This is our last update for 2007, as we look ahead to the arrival of Lisa’s parents in less than two week’s time to spend December with us. Thizbe and Emmett have finished their school year and are already in holiday mode. It still seems a tad strange to be preparing for Christmas in shorts, tank tops, and sandals, but not nearly as odd as it did a year ago.

Yes, a whole year (and a half) has passed, and by God’s provision we are still in Singapore! As I (Lisa) write, Steve is visiting one of the government departments regarding our visa for 2008. We want to let you know that the renewal is up in the air at this point. A year ago, our visa was granted under the condition that HCJB Global Asia Pacific would have five Singaporeans employed by the end of the year. Well, in spite of great efforts by leadership and much prayer from around the world, that has not happened. Our office has three Singaporeans on staff so far, and it’s now time to apply for the new visa. So…although the facts are not in our favour, our applications must be sent in. Our minds are telling us to be fearful and unsettled, and often that’s what gets the best of us. But in our hearts we know that we have a Guide who is far bigger than all of this, and He promises to go before and behind us (Psalm 139:5), leading the way. God with us.

Radio for the Villages
Part of the village

In October, our mission was able to set up a new radio station in a remote mountain area of Indonesia (above). The language now being broadcast there has never gone over the air before!

Antenna and building for the new station

There are approximately 30,000 speakers of this native language living in 100 mountain villages. Many of the people will now hear about Jesus and His love, be spurred on to know Him more, and gain practical knowledge for everyday living – all in their mother tongue. The people are excited and we are in awe of what God is doing in Indonesia to bring people to Himself.
